Maori Name: Tamure | Scientific Name: Pagrus auratus
Found in the North Island and upper South Island. Snapper take 3 - 5 years to reach 25 - 30cm and be sexually mature. Spawning through summer and usually return to the same breeding grounds each year. Generally live in schools of the same size, larger snapper are generally loners and can live up to 63 years.
